Program Participation Participation in We the People... Project Citizen has grown from a pilot program funded by Disney in 1994-95 to a widely disseminated, internationally recognized civic education curriculum for upper elementary, middle school, and high school students. Project Citizen is currently used by an estimated 5,000 teachers and more than 300,000 students in every state as well as the District of Columbia, American Samoa, and Guam. Internationally, Project Citizen is being used by over 60 countries in Central and South America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. In an effort to expand the opportunity for more young people to participate in Project Citizen, other school and community-based groups are being urged to use the program as part of their activities. Teachers can offer the program through student government, Future Teachers Clubs, Civics Clubs, and other groups. In addition, adult leaders of Boys and Girls Clubs, Scouting organizations, 4-H Clubs, YMCA and YWCA, and similar groups can make Project Citizen available to their members. |
