Special focus: Elder abuse

Every day, in every community throughout Wisconsin, an elderly person is being emotionally belittled, isolated, punished, threatened with harm, and physically and sexually abused. In the vast majoirty of cases, the abuser is the victim's spouse, intimate partner, son or daughter, grandchild, or primary care giver.

In preparation of Domestic Violence Month in October, the September Wisconsin Lawyer magazine published by the State Bar of Wisconsin focuses on a wide range of criminal and civil issues and remedies that form the backbone of the justice system´s response to elder abuse. This issue discusses elder abuse, including domestic violence in later life; ethical issues in elder abuse cases; remedying abuse by finance agents; preventing financial abuse by agents under powers of attorney; using restraining orders to protect elder victims, and so on.
